The purpose of redevelopment in the City of Tulare is to eliminate blighting conditions, promote economic development, and develop affordable housing in designated redevelopment project areas. The City of Tulare contains multiple redevelopment project areas, which are the Downtown and Alpine Redevelopment Project Area, the West Tulare Redevelopment Project Area, and the South "K" Street Redevelopment Project Area. The Redevelopment Area map outlines the project areas.
Redevelopment activities in Tulare are governed by a seven-member Board of Directors. The Tulare Redevelopment Agency Board is comprised of members appointed by City Council that make policy program and budget decisions affecting Tulare's Redevelopment Projects. The Redevelopment Agency meets on a regular basis on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Standard meetings are at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located in the Civic Affairs Building at 125 South "M" Street in Tulare.
The West Tulare and South "K" Street Projects were established in 1997. Project Advisory Committees (PAC) exist for these areas. A combined committee exists for the two project areas, and they meet quarterly at City Hall, 411 East Kern Avenue, Tulare, CA 93274.
