Historic Preservation

The City of Tulare designates a limited amount of funds each year for historic preservation activities. These funds are on a first-come basis and are awarded to structures that are listed on the 2005 Historic Resources Survey. To obtain a copy of the 2005 Historic Resources Survey, please contact the Building Department at City Hall, 411 East Kern Avenue, Tulare, CA 93274 or by calling 559-684-4217.

Applicants must agree to the following terms and conditions in order to be eligible for a Historic Preservation Grant:

  • $10,000 Maximum Loan Amount
  • Forgiven after 15 years if the Borrower meets the provisions of the Historic Preservation Loan Agreement
  • 3% simple interest, due and payable if the Borrower defaults on the agreement
  • Each applicant will be required to open the structure for public viewing. This component of the Historic Preservation Loan Agreement will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Borrower shall meet requirements of the "HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORDINACE OF THE CITY OF TULARE" when completing any renovation activities on the Property. The Building Department of the City of Tulare will determine if the Borrower is in compliance.
