Generally considered to be the "backbone"
of any police department, the Patrol Division is the largest and
most visible. The primary functions remain, suppressing criminal
activity, preventing crime and apprehending offenders.
The Patrol Division continues to provide a visible law enforcement
presence at the Tulare County Fair. Uniformed officers and Tulare
Police Explorers also provided traffic control and parking for the
annual World Ag Expo.
Training continues to be a priority not only for the Patrol Division,
but the entire department. Police Officer Standards & Training,
POST, mandated by the state Legislature and in-service sessions
were again taught by trained department instructors. The department
also utilized the various certified POST training facilities throughout
the state. Officers sent to these facilities received approximately
40 hours of class room and hands-on training on subjects such as
traffic accident investigation, driver safety, firearms instructor,
supervision, and hostage negotiations.
